"Formosa 900” Kicks Off – Over a Thousand Cyclists Experience the Beauty of Taiwan

The 2025 Taiwan Cycling Festival’s flagship event, “Formosa 900,” began on November 8th at Taipei City Hall’s East Gate Plaza. Now in its 14th year, the event has attracted 1,268 cyclists, including 381 international participants, making up 30% of the riders. In addition to the nine-day round-island ride, this year’s event features various themed tours encouraging cyclists to explore Taiwan’s rich natural landscapes and cultural heritage.

The Director-General of the Industrial Development Administration (IDA), Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA), Chyou-Huey Chiou, noted that the IDA has been promoting policies on low-carbon mobility and smart manufacturing. Many riders are using E-bikes, symbolizing the integration of technology and sustainability. Chiou expressed hope that this type of low-carbon travel will stimulate local economies and tourism, showcasing Taiwan’s innovation and vitality to the world.

Leading the route this year is Young Liu, Chairman of the Taiwan Bicycle Association; Robert Wu, Chairman of the Taiwan Bicycle Association; Patrick Pai, Chairman of the Cycling and Health Tech Industry R&D Center; and Sheron Wang, CEO of the Cycling Life-Style Foundation. They will take on the Cycle Route along the North-Cross Island Highway, connecting cities and rural communities through cycling and highlighting Taiwan’s commitment to sustainable and low-carbon tourism.
